The dream had the energy and fear which I partly love because it's thrilling: it's the immensity and immediacy which brings me utterly into it. I feel it in the wind on my face, in the movement of the boat, and in the vaporous smell of salt air and a disturbed sea. I am there. I am on the shore with others I don't know. And the great ocean sea expanse grey-green and overcast goes out to the horizon. But above the sea about a mile out and a mile above the sea is a cube of water, say also a mile wide, containing sea water, same colour and of tidal wave energy. You can see that the water cube has powerful waves and detailed movement. We are in a boat going out closer to and eventually some way under the cube. The water from the cube is dripping not like rain so much as though from a melting ice block, irregularly. And then we are a little way under the cube. Needless to say, I was fearful of the cube dropping its contents at any time. NB: Though the cube is perhaps a mile wide out from shore because of its mass and surface movement it appears closer. Incredible experience to be there.
Your dream is rich with symbolism and steeped in powerful emotions, presenting a thrilling yet fearful scenario that reflects aspects of your waking life. Let's break down the elements of your dream to help illuminate its meanings.
The shore represents a boundary between two worlds: the known (land) and the unknown (ocean). Being on the shore with others indicates a social context or shared experience — you may be navigating a transitional phase in your life, where consensus or connection with others is significant. The ocean, particularly in its grey-green color, can symbolize emotions, depth, and the subconscious. The overcast setting further emphasizes a sense of uncertainty or introspection, suggesting that you may be grappling with underlying feelings that are not yet fully realized.
The cube of water is a striking element in your dream. It appears threatening yet captivating, representing a powerful force in your life — perhaps something you feel is looming or inevitable, similar to a pressing ambition or emotional challenge. Water is often associated with emotions and intuition, while the cubic form can signify stability, structure, or containment. The fact that it is elevated and above the surface adds to its otherworldly quality and could indicate that there are aspects of your emotional state that feel overwhelming or out of reach.
When you are navigating your boat towards and eventually beneath the cube, it conveys a sense of daring exploration into the depths of your subconscious. While there is thrill in this experience, there is also fear — fear of the unknown, fear of what may happen if the cube collapses. This dynamic reveals your inner conflict: a desire for adventure and exploration versus a fear of what could happen if things go awry. It may reflect current challenges in your life where you are either pushing forward bravely or hesitating because you fear the potential consequences.
The dripping water from the cube could symbolize the release of pent-up emotions or thoughts. Instead of a consistent flow (like rain), the irregular dripping suggests that your emotional release may be sporadic or unpredictable. This could indicate that while you are experiencing bottled-up feelings or potential stressors, they come out in bits rather than all at once. This mirroring of anxieties or anticipation can be seen as a representation of your current emotional state — you may be finding it difficult to manage certain emotions but are simultaneously intrigued by the intensity of those feelings.
In summary, this dream reflects a combination of exhilaration and fear that you may be experiencing in your waking life. The ocean and the cube suggest a confrontation with powerful emotions, potentially unresolved issues or personal challenges that hover above you, influencing your thoughts and decisions. The boat indicates your journey through these complexities, highlighting a desire to explore and confront these feelings while grappling with the risks involved. The presence of others implies you may also be enmeshed within a community or network that supports or challenges you in these explorations.
Embrace the thrill of the unknown while remaining aware of your fears; acknowledge them as part of your journey rather than threats to deter you. Through careful reflection, consider what the cube represents for you and how you can navigate its depths with courage and curiosity.
